Fertility & Conception

More people than ever before are being supported to create their families with the help of assisted reproductive technologies, and our understanding about the emotional and physical impact of infertility and fertility treatment on individuals, couples and families is growing fast. It can be incredibly lonely to be bombarded with new pregnancy and birth announcements every month, when you are doing everything humanly possible to get pregnant. Feelings of anxiety and despair are common, and fertility difficulties can also take their toll on relationships, which only increases the feelings of isolation and loneliness. Therapy can help you to process these experiences and emotions and to feel less alone. It can also support you to cope with the rigorous demands of fertility treatments.

For some people, the prospect of becoming a parent is very daunting because of worries about how it might impact on their mental health and relationships. For others, the fear relates more to their own experiences of being parented. Perhaps you are wanting to be a different parent from the way you were raised but aren’t sure where to start. Or maybe there are certain aspects of your upbringing that you want to repeat with your own children, and others that you want to leave firmly in the past. Talking therapy can help you to better understand your own earlier experiences of being parented, to resolve painful feelings about this time that you may still carry with you, and can support you to embrace your own values for parenthood in order to move forward with confidence and security.
