Adult Mental Health
Although I have chosen to specialise in working with people in the perinatal period, my background is in working with adults who have experienced trauma, whether that be in the context of early childhood adversity, or more recent experiences such as an accident, assault or medical trauma, for example. I welcome enquiries from people who are living with the psychological consequences of trauma who would like to untangle themselves from cycles driven by fear and find their way back to a more values-led life. It’s never too late to seek help.
Trauma can have a profound impact on how we feel about ourselves, the world, and other people. Without treatment, trauma survivors sometimes find themselves caught in unhelpful rhythms of hypervigilance and avoidance in order to try and keep themselves safe, and trauma can also have a significant impact on relationships with others due to increased feelings of vulnerability and mistrust. Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are very common and understandable responses to trauma, and there is strong evidence for the use of psychological therapy to treat these kinds of difficulties.
