Becoming a mother is so much more than giving birth. Matrescence is the word we use to describe the developmental stage of immense transition, encompassing changes in physiology, psychology, identity, and relationships, that a woman goes through in the porcess of becoming a mother.
Much like adolescence, it can be a time of intense and mixed emotions, confusion, tension, and full-body transformations. But unlike 'adolescence', it doesn't trip off society's tongue (yet) and it's not nearly so well understood. I hope these resources will help you start to make sense of your motherhood.
