Dr Rebecca Knowles Bevis
I am a Clinical Psychologist, chartered by the British Psychological Society, and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am also a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and an accredited Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) practitioner. I have over 15 years’ experience of clinical practice in NHS community mental health services, and I have also worked as an academic and research psychologist at the University of Sheffield. I now work in independent clinical practice, and hold a post as a research tutor and lecturer at the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training and Research.
I am experienced in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychological and emotional difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, relationship and family difficulties, low self-esteem, grief and loss, for example. I have a special interest in perinatal psychology, and in the particular issues and transitions faced by expectant and new parents from conception through to the end of the first year after the birth of a baby. I’m also a recognised birth doula, working with couples and families through pregnancy and birth.
My approach to therapy is compassionate, honest and collaborative, and my focus is on developing a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship to enable people to resolve difficulties and make positive changes for themselves. Throughout therapy, we will work together in order to arrive at a better understanding of your difficulties. I will help you to learn strategies and skills you can use to help you protect yourself against similar difficulties in the future.
